i feel like my biggest criticism for isg (and the sims as well) is that the videos are quite similar, be it through the structure of the video or the content itself. every now and then they become pretty predictable and experimental videos that breaks the typical format of their content tend to be my favorite, an example being the going deep with dan and phil video. that being said, i still definitely enjoy internet support group videos and appreciate the work put into them. i will always watch them and laugh and genuinely have fun watching it, even if it’s not my absolute favorite series. i always felt it was quite ridiculous that people will genuinely get angry and complain about videos like this. there’s a difference between providing helpful criticism and starkly rejecting the videos, accusing him of being lazy, etc. i feel as if there’s this ideology that everything has to be exciting all the time that i see in a lot of other fandoms as well (eg. steven universe) people don’t realize that not every video can be groundbreaking and overwhelmingly exciting. i understand that the percentage of individuals in the phandom who actually act like this, but the extremes tend to stick out and it’s quite frustrating sometimes. there was a misunderstanding and everyone assumed this was the video he had been ‘hyping’ up so to say, although that one got delayed, and even still people’s expectations are too high. i have no doubt that the video will be entertaining and something to be proud of, but judging from his tweets, i think he feels the pressure from his fanbase to create a certain video. i can admit i had fun joking about what it could be, but it almost seems that no matter what it is, if the video is not what people were assuming, there will be massive disappointment and unfair criticism. of course he stated on twitter later that he appreciated everyone being kind and implied he was fine, so this whole rant may be completely unnecessary. i just feel like it’s important for everyone to remember to have an open mind. if you’re going to leave the phandom because you feel the content is boring, that’s your decision. just dont put unnecessary criticism on his videos and expect every video to be a coming out and be disappointed when it isn’t and then vocalize that directly to him. if the only reason you’re a fan is to see that, you probably dont need to be here anyways. i’ll stand by his content because i genuinely enjoy his videos.
